Thanks for the reflection. I was a sophomore in high school when I saw it, already a huge S&G fan, so that's what I was there for. The movie swept me. Oh, so those are some of the possibilities ahead. Hmmm. But, yes, "plastics" resonated deep, even in my adolescent brain. It first became a token for the conformist, consumerist shallowness of most people. Now it rings as a long ago harbinger warning of how we humans were about to trash the environment, the seas, even the climate with that same shallow selfishness.
