The Last Days of the World… & Humans Don’t Care!
The TV news last night reported that 1% of Americans believe that Global Warming is the №1 problem facing our nation. That number rises to 3% among younger Americans.
So between 97-99% of Americans think something else is more important than the livability of the planet.
This factlet makes me want to throw up. Is humanity truly this stupid and selfish? Obviously so.
I wonder if Global Warming is the least of concerns of those whose lives it has already ripped asunder. Those who had family members die — or will die themselves — because of steadily-increasing heat strokes; or those whose homes — or whole towns — have been burned to the ground by yet another “historic” wildfire; or those whose house was submerged — or floated away — in a “thousand-year” flood; or those who were visited by one of the ever-more frequent and wide-ranging tornado “swarms;” or those whose abodes, livelihoods or lives were threatened by one of the more frequent and more powerful hurricanes; or those whose community is facing dire water shortages due to apocalyptic droughts; or whose lake is drying up or river has all but disappeared; or those who froze to death or came near to it when the power went out because of some freaky winter weather event; or those who have been impacted by some, strange tropical disease — like Zika — that has wandered into new territory; or those whose nearby forests are being assaulted by insects and disease that our “old climate” used to keep in check; or those who give the slightest damn about the countless species of innocent life forms we stupid, selfish humans are taking down with us as we continue to stomp on the accelerator toward climate catastrophe. Drill, baby, drill! Dig, baby, dig! Burn, baby, burn!
Make no mistake. Global Warming is COMING FOR YOU! It is going to turn your world upside down, one way or another… probably one way AND another AND another AND another!
Yes, we Democrats are furious at the despicable Joe Manchin, “Democratic” senator from West Virginia, who is so thoroughly corrupt, every time he speaks, he coughs coal dust. But the FAR larger problem is on the other side of the political spectrum where EVERY REPUBLICAN is stone-cold determined they are going to do everything in their power to wring the last dime of profit out of fossil fuels until it destroys the world. In addition to stuffing their own pockets, they think they are “owning the libs,” but, actually, they are betraying their own children and grandchildren… all of humanity and every living thing on Earth (except those creatures that will feast on the carcass of human civilization).
Global Warming should be recognized by everyone as the №1 problem facing not just America but every human and animal alive. Nothing else is remotely as threatening. Conservatism, the Ideology of Selfishness — and nothing else — has prevented this from happening. In its 10,000-year long run of being the villain of history, I guess it has saved its most audacious, horrible and inexcusable villainy for the end. It is now ensuring that humanity is going to whiff on doing much of anything to mitigate the cataclysm, clearly in view, dead ahead.
And so… here we go… into the fire! Enjoy your cluelessness and carelessness and selfishness. We are all about to roasted… and become the cosmic joke perhaps we were ever fated to be.
