Trump Will Never Concede. Even Out Of Office, He Has A Country To Poison.
It’s now over two weeks since the 2020 election, 13 days after news networks called the election for Joe Biden. Donald Trump still can’t accept the result. He is still claiming he won, but the election was stolen by Democrats. Americans are wondering when he will accept the truth. Will he do so graciously? Will he honor America’s precious legacy of peaceful transfer of power? Will he allow the normally seamless segue to a new executive branch of the opposing party? Will he eventually concede? The answer to such questions would be… No! Trump will never concede.
Donald Trump is a simpleton narcissist, and therefore very predictable. In any given situation, to guess what Donald will do one need only wonder what he would entirely selfishly think would be best for him and worst for everyone and everything else. Whatever that is, that’s what Donald will do. In the case of the 2020 election, what Trump wanted most is to have won, while what would be worst for everyone else, and America itself, would be for him to pretend that he won when he actually lost. And that’s precisely where we find ourselves today.
It would be very unTrump-like to concede. Donald Trump never concedes. Some years before he became president, he had a “coat of arms” designed for one of his golf courses… the motto emblazoned: “Never concede.” If he were to be cajoled into “conceding” as the right thing to do, it would effectively be a non-concession, a fake, reneged in short order. Trump never apologizes. He never admits he was wrong. He never admits to his lies (though he often tells new ones that contradict old ones). He can never think of himself as a loser. Therefore he can never admit defeat. The reason he is so practiced at lying and denying truth is because he loses so often in life. He is truly a pathetic figure. Yet it is difficult to have empathy for him because he is so dangerous. He has decades of experience painting over harsh reality, and has always surrounded him with sycophants who will corroborate and coordinate with his sociopathy, never more, or more powerful, enablers than now. Truth is Trump’s enemy. He can’t handle the truth. So when he loses, which he often does, he doesn’t have the moral strength or the grace or the ethic to acknowledge such truth. Instead, he falls back into his make-believe persona and make-believe world where he is the eternal winner. Not just that even… but the greatest ever! Ironically, this renders Donald Trump not just a bad loser; he is the worst loser.
As a narcissist, Trump craves attention. As a petty thug, Trump loves smashing things. He loves breaking norms. He loves breaking decorum. He loves breaking rules. He loves breaking laws. He loves disrespecting people. He loves demeaning people. He loves dividing people. He loves alienating people. He loves hurting people. He loves creating chaos. He loves holding power. He loves defiling the United States of America. Everything Trump touches is poisoned. And despite losing the election and facing forced eviction from the White House, Trump is not finished poisoning America.
To concede is to surrender. Donald Trump is not going to willingly surrender his power to Joe Biden… or anyone else. Donald Trump is going to his grave claiming this election was rigged and stolen from him. To do otherwise would undercut his assertions for the last four years… in this election and the last. Remember, prior to both elections, in 2016 and 2020, Trump proclaimed that the only way he could lose an election would be because it was fraudulent, illegal, stolen! Never mind that he is absolutely reprehensible to a majority of Americans, including millions of Republicans! Nevertheless, a separate millions of Americans (and a relative smattering of idiots around the world) believe in that Trumpian “logic” wholeheartedly, and will back him up. Indeed, anything out of his mouth, no matter how farfetched or outlandish, is gospel to them. If Trump plays his cards right, one hundred years from now they will still be talking about the election stolen from their messiah.
Donald Trump does not give a damn about the United States of America, or for a single American outside his own family (and we can’t be totally certain he cares about a few of them… Ivanka for sure he has the hots for, the rest… questionable). He only cares about himself. He cares not the slightest whit about American unity or the sanctity of the peaceful and polite and respectful transfer of power. He will relish spitting on all of that, just as he is relishing this final, brutal wrenching of Americans apart from each other as this ludicrous but brazenly dangerous attempted coup by overthrowing a presidential election plays out to the bitter end.
The adoring crowd, which believes to their core that Donald Trump is “sent by God” to protect their privileges, will stick with him thick and thin. Trump is counting on it, and will continue to exploit their gullibility and fervor oblivious to his true disdain for them. He fully understands they are moronic sheep, whose fear, greed, anger and bigotry buttons he can play like an accordion. He’s told them this to their face, and insults them, as much as anyone, as he incessantly brags about how great he is. But unlike Reagan who faded away on them, and Bush who left them embroiled in two simultaneous wars and a crashed economy, Trump took them to dizzying heights. They perceived his torrent of lies as “owning the libs” each and every day. Oh, how they loved that… because they are so disgusted by all other Americans…. while believing that in some fundamental way Trump, the racist, sexist, xenophobic, wife-cheating, irreligious, king of debt, fake billionaire, real estate huckster, snake-oil salesman, failed casino-steak-airline-beverage-boardgame-magazine-mortgagelender-communications-travel-college entrepreneur, gilded New York City tower dweller, reality TV star, porn star consort, conspiracy-theorist-in-chief and (imagined) Nobel Prize winner is truly one of them. They are partly correct.
To hold his rapt audience of cultists, to which he has become addicted, needing them more than they need him (though neither side quite understands this affliction), Trump cannot concede. A year from now, five years from now, when he’s 90 years old, he wants them still aggrieved and chanting, “Stop the Counting! Stop the Steal!” This throng of cultists has forgiven and forgotten Trump’s every gaffe, every lie, from “Grab ’em by the pussy” to his calling dead and wounded soldiers “losers,” to not showing a whit of concern either for the Russians laying bounties on American soldiers in Afghanistan or for an American resident brutally murdered by Trump’s Saudi buddies or for the half a million American deaths to Covid. They are still with him, going further and further out on already thin branches as he and his “legal team” (of clowns like Rudy Giuliani) spout ever more ridiculous claims for how the election was stolen (the latest conspiracy theory is that the ghost of Hugo Chavez intervened), and probe ever more un-democratic (if not technically illegal) plots to overthrow it. Trump needs this mob of gullible dolts to carry on with him into the future, near and far. Concede and that washes away, and the epithet “loser” is left in the tidal debris.
An entrepreneur at heart, even though he’s ridiculously bad at it, and a big fan of the media, upon which he is a train wreck few can turn away from, Trump will likely turn to the media as his next act. You have to give him this: he thinks big. Another paltry “show,” like the Apprentice (which was pretty paltry) is not nearly big enough for him now, an ex-president as he soon will be. He’ll want his own channel or network. How better to continue his lying assault on American institutions and democracy itself? He could be Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones and Andrew Breitbart all rolled into one toxic ball of dangerous demagoguery. How better to get back at the “fake news” and “failing liberal media,” as well as stick it to Fox News which had the traitorous gall to (correctly) call Arizona for Biden before any other channel and whose news team steadfastly refuses to stop calling Biden “president-elect?” He still has plenty of media allies he could round up to fill his channel: Jones, Steve Bannon, Sarah Huckabee, Sean Spicer, Kellyanne Conway, Kayleigh McEnany, Dinesh D’Souza, surely Sean Hannity’s brown nose would want to follow Trump’s tail. He could bring in Ted Nugent as house band. And, of course, the star of his network would be… the one, the only, the most beautiful, the most voluptuous, the smartest woman in the universe… Ivanka! One small catch: Trump will have to find a real billionaire to fund this scheme. Or maybe his buddies, the Russians, who have found the Trump wrecking ball a delightfully potent weapon of mass destruction ripping at the heart of the nation they hate. They certainly don’t want to see this show end so quickly.
This appealing dream of carrying on as the American Villain falls apart if Trump concedes. There goes Ivanka becoming the next Oprah. Of course, if he does start his own network, it will spectacularly collapse… like all of his other projects. Jobs will be lost, careers ruined, contractors jilted, investors left holding the bag. Trump, himself, will bail having gotten his money up-front but will claim a huge tax break from the debacle. Despite his flamboyant “wins,” Trump’s record as a businessman, and now, as a president, paints him as a perennial loser. The wreckage of his business efforts to cash in on casinos, steaks, wine, airline, beauty pageant, travel agency, “university,” “charity” and other scams stretch behind him. To that, historians will add the wreckage he wrought to the United States federal government and to the cultural fabric of this nation.
Then there is the matter of the legal jeopardy private citizen Donald Trump may find himself in the moment he is dragged, kicking and screaming, from the White House. The IRS and State of New York may have some nasty surprises for him. So, too, could a new federal Justice Department under Biden wish to take a closer look at some of Trump’s nefarious deeds while in office. Trump will desperately need the veneer of legitimacy (even if wholly illegitimate) and his “sent by God” status with tens of millions of Americans to shield him from the full reach of the law. Maybe his three appointees to the Supreme Court will come to his rescue. Without the protection of these benefactors, he may go from lame duck to sitting duck for prosecutors, if there are any with the guts to take on a former president.
For all these reasons, it’s not prudent to hold your breath for the big, dramatic Donald Trump concession speech, or even phone call to Biden, or even the cordial meeting at the White House, or even the ride together to the inauguration, or, even actually attending the inauguration. The prediction here: Trump will be the first outgoing president since John Adams, 220 years ago, to not attend the inauguration of the president-elect.
And why would he? That would be classy and healing for the nation. Donald Trump is classless and cares nothing for the health of the nation. Just as well. In fact, perfect! The faster Donald Trump gets out of our sight, the better.
